Gebäude der Banco de Portugal in Faro | Das Gebäude der Banco de Portugal in Faro ist eines der markantesten architektonischen Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Es besticht durch seinen einzigartigen neo-manuelinischen Stil, kombiniert mit auffälligen islamischen Stilelementen. Das Gebäude liegt zentral in Faro an der Praça Dom Francisco Gomes, direkt neben der Marina und unweit des historischen Stadttors Arco da Vila. Errichtet wurde der Prachtbau zwischen 1924 und 1926 (manche Quellen nennen das Fertigstellungs- oder Einweihungsjahr 1929). Entworfen wurde es von dem bekannten Lissabonner Architekten Arnaldo Redondo Adães Bermudes. Bevor die Bank gebaut wurde, befand sich an dieser Stelle der städtische Gemüsemarkt (Mercado das Hortaliças). Das Bauwerk gilt als herausragendes Beispiel des Revivalismus in Portugal. Der Architekt vereinte hier historischen Nationalstolz mit regionalen Einflüssen der Algarve. Die Fassade kombiniert den pompösen, portugiesischen Neo-Manuelinismus (Spätgotik-Renaissance-Mix) mit deutlichen maurischen/islamischen Einflüssen. Besonders markant ist das große, orientalisch anmutende hufeisenförmige Portal über dem Haupteingang.Details: Die Fassade ist mit feinen Steinmetzarbeiten, kunstvollen Fenstern im Obergeschoss und dekorativen Elementen verziert. Typisch für die Region sind auch die auffälligen, verzierten Dachspitzen aus Terracotta (Akrokeramion). - Realized with Pictrs.com
